KubeCon/CloudNativeCon EU - Top Talks, Co-Located Events & How to get started!

KubeCon/CloudNativeCon goes virtual! In less than a day, one of the biggest open source and definitely the biggest cloud native conference gets kicked off. With a growing list of topics, tools and use cases, it is a challenge to make your way through the fully loaded schedule.

How to get started

This year are many new attendees expected for KubeCon, if you are one of it do the following things:

  • Manage your session you want to attend beforehand! No choke, check the schedule and select your favorites. The main slots have around 20 sessions; there is no time to read through all of them between the talks.
  • Sometimes a talk isn't what you expect, watch out for a fallback talk!
  • My (Max) fellow K8s Release Team Communications Lead Karen & Technical Oversight Committee member Michelle will give you an overview of the conference, the CNCF projects and how to network online! Karen Chu & Michelle Noorali - KubeCon 101

Our favorite talks

Monday @ ServiceMeshCon: WebAssembly for Istio Telemetry and More - John Plevyak, Mandar Jog & Pitor Sikora, Google

Monday: Tutorial: Using BPF in Cloud Native environments - Alban Crequy & Marga Manterola, Kinvolk

Tuesday: Network Service Mesh to Address Cloud Native 5G Telco Networking Challenges - Roshini Ratnam & Anders Franzen, Ericsson

Wednesday: Reimagining the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid on Kubernetes - Lukas Heinrich, CERN & Alessandra Forti, University of Manchester

Thursday: Booting 5 K8s Clusters on Every Git Push: How Linkerd Leveled Up Its CI - Andrew Seigner, Buoyant

Co-located Events

Don't miss the co-located Events. These will be held on the first day and are micro conferences about dedicated topics like a cloud native hackathon, security, service mesh and serverless.

Our favorite this year: the ServiceMeshCon. Service meshes have been a big topic in the last year and keep evolving and impacting the cloud native environment. We can't wait to see the major challenges Linkerd developer Boyant faces or how WebAssembly (WASM) extends the observability of Istio.

The last hint from our side. The AWS Container Days for EMEA will take place on the 24th of August. Stretch your KubeCon a little longer and you can attend two co-located events without stress :)

We hope we can see you next year, back together, healthy and celebrate the great K8s community!
